Ethcs is a small New Zealand t-shirt brand focused on high quality products with great customer service.

That's right, it’s pronounced ethics. It all started a few years ago during my final year of university. A mis-understanding with the university administration, coupled with my stubborn pride led me to drop out.

I'd done the work and had the results but you can't always rely on others to complete their work and on this occasion the necessary documentation didn't exist to support my graduation.

Told I'd have to repeat my final year, I turned and walked away.

Left with a part-time job, a book full of designs and those words ringing in my ears I wasn't quite sure what to do.

I decided to drink about it. A few mates came over and we got on the beers.

As you know, all the best ideas are conceived when you're drunk. Someone says; "bro, some of these would look mean on a t-shirt". And ya know what, that sounded like a pretty good idea.

Some time later I got a couple of t-shirts printed and to my amazement people wanted them. I decided to go into business, so I got a box full of blank t-shirts printed and sold them on Trademe (New Zealands ebay).

Slowly I raised enough money to get my very own website and released a couple of new t-shirt designs. At first I was pretty stoked with my shiny new website but slowly I started to realise it wasn't going to go the distance. It lacked some crucial functionality and was making life harder than it needed to be. It was time for a full blown content management system that I could customise myself. It was time to learn some code! The result is this website, the one you're on right now. It's not perfect (is any website?!) but I'm improving it all the time.

Today I've posted our brand of New Zealand t-shirts, hoodies, singlets and canvas prints to Kiwis (New Zealanders) living all round the world. I'm not yet making truck loads of money, in fact I package every garment myself, personally dispatch every order and manage all the admin stuff with the help of my partner Bec.

So you're probably wondering why my New Zealand Clothing brand is called Ethcs huh? Well, Ethcs stands for the way I'd like to do business, ya know, by being ethical. But my friends helped inspire this journey so much that I figured it's not all about me and dropped the 'i' from ethics and thus Ethcs Clothing was born.

Originally from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but I now call Wellington home. I live with my partner, Bec, and our adopted cat, The Face. When I'm not working on Ethcs, I'm most likely to be at work (yup, I work full-time too!) where I'm an 'Imaging and Data Coordinator' for the Alexander Turnbull Library. Or I'm quite likely to be in the kitchen coz I love to cook.
